Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I teach are curious, hesitant, excited to be learning new technology and feel confident in themselves when they master new technology skills, keeping up with their more affluent peers. iPads and animation let students use technology creatively and they are happily intrigued and engaged.
I have been teaching art, math and computers with middle school students for 10 years.
I am now the full time, only art teacher at my school. Technology is exciting and incorporatong technology in the art room is challenging. Currently each student creates a digital portfolio of their artwork with iPads and the web museum Artsonia using QR codes. My 2 goals in the art room this year are to use technology and give students more choices.
For the first time this year, I am teaching a computer animation class. It has been a learning experience for my students and myself. I know a lot about computers, with a minor credential in computers with my art major. I know some things about computer animation but I want to learn more so I can be more of a resource for students in this class. I have taken 2 graduate level iPad classes online. I keep a class blog and this year we are piloting the new media art standards for 8th graders with The National Coalition for Core Arts Standards.
My Project
I am requesting books and more books to read and educate myself on animation on the iPad, as that is the new media art class I have just been assigned to teach this year. I want to learn about how to do green screens with the iPad, stop motion animation, Claymation and animated gifs, to name a few things. These are things that I know about and would like to know more so I will be able to teach these with knowledge and with experience.
I'm requesting an iPad with enough memory to make animations and movies on, so I can practice what I learn in the books. I hope to learn from the books how to reflect the iPad desktop on the active board we have in the classroom. I think I will be more knowledgeable about media art after reading these books and better able to pilot the 8th grade media art assessment when they make a 2-minute movie about an artist for the new national media art standards.
Books, books about technology and an iPad will help me be a better media arts teacher.
I will know more from reading these books and I will be a more informed teacher. If I learn how to do iPad animation, then students will be able to do green screen, stop motion animation, claymation and animated gifs, all things I want to know about so I can teach. The student movies will be better from my reading more and more students movies will be proficient or better for this piloting media program.
