This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"With our eyes we see, with our ears we hear, with our fingers we can touch..." That is just one of my students favorite songs. They love to sing, listen to stories, and learn using all five of their senses. We have a listening station and some headphones but need other resources to use with it!
I have a classroom full of 19 eager and active Kindergarteners who absolutely LOVE to learn!
My school is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. We will be the first IB:PYP school in our area. 100% of my class receives free or reduced lunch and we are a part of the Title I Initiative. Fostering their love for learning at an early age will help my students succeed in the future. My hope and goal is that my students will grow into leaders in our school community and be successful in life.
My Project
I have a wonderful listening station that is seldom used due to a lack of books and activities to listen to. With these materials our listening station will be used everyday during our language arts stations. My students love the opportunity to use different materials and work independently. With books and Cd's for a listening station my students will listen to reading, track print as it is being read, read along to practice fluency, and use their comprehension skills to identify story elements.
Access to these materials in our classroom will help my students develop concept of word skills while exposing them to a variety forms of literature.
It will encourage their love for reading, their thirst for knowledge, and provide them with the resources they need to learn. It is my hope that nurturing their love for reading will help them in all academic areas and provide them with skills they will use throughout their lives.
