Reading + Technology = Success

My students need an enticing way to learn literacy elements. Using a new computer adds a degree of interest for those students reluctant to read a book. They also need 3 learning software packages.

My Students

In this day and age children are more inclined to respond to things related to technology. They are often visual learners and using computer based learning adds that extra spark of interest to their daily education.

My students are your average Northern Nevada children who have most of what they need without many of the extras.

We live in a rural community and our families are facing hard times with the economy as it is. But in my class I see a desire to learn and do their best.

My Project

My students range from families at the poverty level to middle class. Many are from single-parent families and spend time at baby-sitters and after-school care of some type. As a result, at home reading is often pushed aside due to other commitments and time restrictions. Adding another level of reading education into the classroom will help my students take control of their own education and give them more tools to succeed!

If a child already loves reading, then learning the strategies and techniques of reading is simple.

The challenge is to engage the reluctant reader and making them WANT to read. Adding technology into the mix is a great way of doing this. It is my hope that adding computer learning into the classroom setting will motivate and challenge my students to succeed in this area.
