Literacy development happens when students are exposed to several different types of literacy. They need to not only be reading, but to be read to every single day.
My students are in a moderate poverty area.
Our school is a primary campus, serving grades Kindergarten through Second Grade. We live in a high military area, so most of my students parents may be deployed. When a parent deploys, it can take a toll on the students. Simple things, like having a story read to them, may not be able to happen. This project will help ensure that every student, no matter their situation, will be read to in several different ways each and every day.
My Project
These resources will help give my students the exposure to literacy that they need. I picked the book collections that have the themes and topics that my students enjoy. My students would love a listening center because they are absorbing the text better. Some of my struggling readers would benefit from this because they can actually work on comprehension strategies.
My students deserve an opportunity to be the best readers they can possibly be.
This project will help me expose them to different types of text so that they can grow in their literacy development.
