Reading is FUN When You Have Good Books to Choose!
My students need BOOKS! Books at all levels and accessible to a variety of students (such as audio books on an iPad). We're having trouble finding enough sets of books for book clubs and partnerships.
My students make me smile everyday. That's because these 7th graders are filled with empathy for the world around them. How do they get that? By READING!!! They love to read and even email me about great books they wish they had in the classroom. I think this is what makes them such caring individuals.
Our classroom is very diverse, in both the population and their learning styles, so I Iike to make sure that books are accessible to everyone no matter what they like.
My Project
When you're as lucky as we are to have a class full of students who love to read, you realize the problem is making sure you have the books to keep up that love of reading. We've ordered book club and partnership sets of books to keep kids engaged throughout the year.
One of our biggest problems is finding books that reach all the levels that our kids are at in the room.
Having audio books (on the iPad) and books for struggling readers helps everyone in the class feel that same excitement, even if they may be struggling. Everyone counts in our classrooms - we're all readers.
