My students need 35 Scholastic Math magazines to use in our classroom. The Common Core Standards emphasize reading non-fiction text, as well as real-life math application.

My Students

The new Common Core Standards emphasize reading non-fiction text, as well as application of math to real-life situations. Scholastic Math magazines are full of high-interest topics, and reinforce for students how math is used daily in real life. And, I can sneak in reading practice during math!

My students come from low socio-economic backgrounds, and rarely have magazines in their homes.

In many schools, the use of Scholastic math magazines is paid for by the parents' donations for the subscriptions. In my students' homes, there is no extra money for things like magazines. To have a color copy of a magazine to read and enjoy would be a treat for them. To watch them improve their non-fiction reading skills would be the treat for me!

My Project

My students will use the Scholastic math magazines regularly in our classroom. The high-interest subjects will increase the engagement of my students. The math activities found throughout the magazine will help my students understand how math is used daily, in real-life situations.

My students will love the magazines to use in class!

They will learn about so many different ways that math is used in the real-world! Their increased engagement in the lessons will have a positive effect on their learning, too!
