My students need ball chairs, tether balls, jump ropes and playground balls to help develop core strength and crossing the mid-line abilities to aid in learning to read and other academic skills.

The STEM school is where I teach a very diverse group of kids. Many of these kids come from homes where education doesn't play an important role. These students have not had experiences that help their academic career. They are in need of activities that promote crossing the mid line to aid in developing better handwriting and reading skills, they need to learn taking turns, being part of a team to accomplish a goal and other social skills,. Playing tether ball and jumping rope can help with this.
Sports help students academically as well as physically and mentally.
The entire school receives free lunch and many families live below the poverty line. These students need all the hands on activities they can to help them retain what they are being taught. With so many of the students being tactile learners and having dyslexic tendencies they need activities that they can see and touch. By creating a fun way to promote crossing the mid-line which will help with hand writing and reading skills they don't realize they are working on social and reading skills when they are playing.
The ability for a person to cross the mid-line of their body contributes to their ability to read. These balls and equipment will help students develop needed strengths that will aid in their ability to read and learn academically. My special needs students as well as other students in the school need activities that promote crossing the mid line to aid in developing better handwriting and reading skills. Playing tether ball or four square or jumping rope helps with this.
I have a very diverse group of special needs students in the 5th and 6th grades as well as many students needing that extra help to be successful.
The entire school receives free lunch and many families live below the poverty line. With so many of the students being tactile learners and having dyslexic tendencies they need activities that they can increase their inter learning abilities. By creating a fun way to promote crossing the mid-line which will help with hand writing and reading skills they don't realize they are working on reading skills. For the many students that find learning difficult and haven't developed the desire to succeed academically, teachers must find any way they can to build these skills.
With your help these students have a better chance to learn the skills needed to be successful in society.
