My students need resources to improve their writing and research skills including a tabletop writing center, grammar books, laminator, laminator pouches, landform books, etc.
Teaching writing to young writers can often be an enormous challenge. Everyday I work to help my students meet the challenge and become proficient writers in both narrative and expository styles. They are motivated and excited about becoming authors.
My 28 1st-3rd grade public Montessori students are in need of resources to help them understand and enjoy the writing process.
Our school is a public Montessori in a large urban district. In our school many of the students we service are "high risk" and have been identified as being socioeconomically disadvantaged. Students come from all over the city of Grand Rapids to attend our school. My students love to learn and find out about their world.
My Project
My students need additional resources to help them become engaged and excited about writing both narrative and expository text. I envision students using the nonfiction books "Exploring Landforms Photo Books" and "Continent World Photo Series" to help investigate their world and then write research reports about their findings. The grammar books will aide them with conventions and word choice as they engage in the writing process. The research organizer and the writing activities pocket will allow students the chance to learn the about different types of writing and then engage in them. The organizer will house our writing materials and the laminator will help to preserve their work.
Through these materials my students will be able to understand the writing process and find their "voices" in print.
They will become effective writers and able to prepare themselves for their future.
