Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to learn and they love to read! Reading is a huge part of our day, and many of my students are currently reading below grade level. With your help, I can get my students excited about reading independently and help them find challenging and interesting books to become strong readers!

My school is a wonderful, creative, and artistic place for students to learn!

We are a no-worksheet school and we strive to integrate art into everything we do! The students face many challenges at home that I have never experienced and could not imagine living through, yet they are resilient and strong in every obstacle they meet. My school is a Title I school, and many of the students come from immigrant families and hope to be the first in their families to graduate from high school and pursue college! We have dedicated parents who want to help, but they struggle with the language barrier. My students love using technology and we love to learn. My hope is to put these two together to create a fun, technology-based learning environment for my class! Many of my students cannot afford the latest technology, and therefore have never been exposed to iPads. I believe that with an opportunity to learn and interact with iPads, they will be better prepared for their future! My students need 2 iPads, headphones, and iPad cases to use as a learning center and listening tools for my struggling readers.

My Project

My students will use these materials in a variety of ways. We will use them during independent reading time, to help those students who struggle to read on their own. There are countless apps that can help students sound out words, recognize letter sounds, and figure out the meaning of unknown words! Imagine how a tool like an iPad could benefit a student in third grade who is reading at a first grade level. It is important that these struggling readers gain confidence in their ability to read independently and do not lose hope in their ability to succeed in school! Another way to use the iPads is for researching important topics related to social studies and science. The iPads will provide extra opportunities for the students to research what they are interested in! Lastly, there are apps that make learning math fun! By creating games to help students with difficult math concepts, the iPad can provide an opportunity to help students who otherwise would feel like giving up!

My project will benefit my students by allowing them opportunities to interact with technology that they otherwise would not have.

It will instill confidence and independence in my students who struggle to read on their own! It will provide opportunities for students to conduct their own research and gain valuable knowledge on topics that they are personally interested in. It will provide an atmosphere where students feel excited and motivated to come to school because they will know that learning is fun!
