My students need to have access to lots and lots of books! I want to provide easy access to big books and children's literature in our classroom, we need two big book display stands.
I have the privilege of teaching 20 first graders not only HOW to ready but to LOVE reading! I want to provide a classroom environment where my students are surrounded by books and have the opportunity to read big books on the carpet, see books on display, discover new books and READ, READ, READ.
My students come to school eager to learn and read!
I use hands on experiences to engage my students in a brain friendly classroom. I teach reading based on brain research and the Daily 5 method. My students enjoy 5 types of reading daily: Reading to Self, Reading to Someone, Working with Words Activities, Reading with the Teacher and Listening to Reading. Research shows that children in classrooms with the most books consistently outperform their peers who are in classrooms with few books. Primary classrooms should have 700-750 books! I have the books but need the displays! I want to offer my students a selection of books they can easily access through inviting displays and convenient storage!
My Project
My students work independently during our Daily 5 Literacy block. They will have the freedom to choose books of interest to them during this time. Big Books have traditionally been stored in a cabinet which is not accessible to my little first graders. A big book storage cart will allow my students to easily choose a book to read on our comfy rug. Students will be able to easily choose books on current units of study from a book display case. Book covers are inviting for young readers. Students are much more likely to choose a book that is displayed in an inviting manner.
Students come to first grade expecting to learn how to read!
I want to expose my students to as many books and opportunities to read as possible. Your donation will help me create an inviting classroom that is organized and offers easy access to books! Thank you!
