My kiddos are hungry for the flavor of some new books! A listening station will help them do just that!
I teach fourth grade at a small elementary school in Maine.
We are a Title I school, which means that at least 40% of our students are at the poverty level. Though they might be low-income, they sure are high-energy! For these learners, teaching with technology has been a perfect match! My students are enthralled with new technology and love experiencing things at school that they might not be able to experience on their own. Through your generosity, I hope to be able to provide these students with a listening center that will enhance and enrich their love of reading and learning!
My Project
Imagine ten students sitting around one book trying to have a shared reading experience. Now imagine those ten students comfortably spread out listening to the same book being read aloud to them. After that chapter, they take off their headphones and have a meaningful discussion about what they just heard. Imagine a student being so excited about starting a new book, only for them to find that it is too far above what they can read. Students gathered around the listening center will be able to experience new books, create music, and play games without interrupting the rest of the class!
Many of my students have low self-esteem when it comes to reading.
Either they cannot read at the same pace as other students, or they can't read at the same level. I envision the listening center will bring them all together and provide shared literature experiences. A class that read together, leads together!
