Mrs. Weatherford from Saint Louis MO is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need sets of books such as: Ender's Game, A Tale of Two Cities, and The Help in order to engage in differentiated instruction through literature circles.

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies...The man who never reads lives only one." A typical day in my classroom revolves around the love of not only literature, but a desire to learn about the world around us. Reading is not only a skill, but a journey.
My students are an incredible, inquisitive and bright group of seventh graders who love to read.
They go to school at a magnet school for the gifted students in our inner city school district which qualifies for 100% Free and Reduced Lunch status. As in any classroom, my students have a myriad of interests when it comes to reading, as well as a variety of reading levels. One thing that seems to tie them all together is a love of reading. My 105 students have already read well over 1000 books during our first semester together! I would love to include more discussions about texts that they read in groups. Sometimes the journey is better when you have someone along.
These materials will be used for literature circles. Students will be able to choose from 5 books(Ender's Game, A Tale of Two Cities, The Uglies, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship Of Her Own, and The Help) and will have discussions with their group partners as they read their chosen text. Having literature circles allows for differentiation, due to the fact that the reading levels in my class ranges from about seventh grade up past a college reading level. Having literature circles also allows for students to choose a text that they can truly enjoy and connect with.
Instilling a love of reading in a child is giving them a gift that they can take into their future.
Reading opens up the world and can allow readers to understand and empathize with a world they may never come in contact with, otherwise.
