Books are one of the most accessible ways to find new information, and a love for reading fosters a positive learning experience.
We are a first grade class in a Title I School in Oregon.
Our school was built in the 1950's. We do not have a lot of classroom resources to be able to build a comprehensive library of both fiction and nonfiction books. My students do not always have access to quality books to read outside of school, so I am trying to make sure that there is ample amounts of books at the correct level for my students to be able to read and enjoy.
My Project
Within the school day there are many opportunities to read, however students often have a hard time finding a good book that is at the correct level for them to be able to read accurately and comprehend in a meaningful way. With this lack of leveled books, students are not using the reading time to the full capacity that they could if we had a leveled library.
With the donation of a leveled library, students would be able to quickly find a perfect book for themselves and would spend more time reading.
This would cut down on the amount of wasted time looking for a book. My students love being able to go to our class library and would greatly benefit from a library they could navigate with ease.
