Most of my students come from homes that do not have access to computers or tablets. They desperately need access to technology in their hands to engage them and prepare them for success. Classroom iPads would enhance their knowledge of the English language as well as their literacy instruction.
My students are a diverse group of learners.
I see 42 students each day, 24 of which are English Language learners. Our school is a Title 1 school located in a suburb outside of Atlanta, the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our student population is comprised of 26% Hispanic students, 30% African American, 34% Caucasian, and 10% Asian, Multiracial, and, Native American. My students are enthusiastic about learning and love technology. They need access to books being read to them and educational apps.
My Project
I am requesting 2 iPads and 2 cases. My students will utilize the 2 iPads to access a wealth of books being read aloud to them, as well as to access learning apps to expose them to Phonics and language instruction they lack. The iPads will serve as a remediation tool for those students in my class currently reading 1-2 grade levels below the expectation. This technology will serve as a learning center to aid and enhance classroom instruction. iPads would put the technology into my students' hands that they are enthusiastic about and makes learning fun!
This project would make a difference to my students by giving them access to the same technology and learning opportunities as those afforded to students of higher socioeconomic status.
My students need to be able to compete and be successful in this technological age. They are so excited about learning and their faces light up when given access to technology to enhance their learning.
