Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Taking higher level classes requires the ability to be organized. Seven classes, after school activities, community service, work schedules, due dates, and contacts for research are only a few things these students need help keeping track of.
Over 80% of our high school population are students from low income families.
This doesn't mean they don't have the ability to learn at the higher levels, but it does mean they need a little help making ends meet. They have busy lives. Many of them work, not for spending cash, but for food and rent. Getting these kids to take the advanced classes is tough; keeping them in them can be even tougher. Keeping them organized keeps them in the classroom. They know and see what is coming up, what is due, when it is due, where they are suppose to be, and when.
My Project
I am looking to provide planners for as many of my students as I possibly can. The school district used to provide them, but with budget cuts, the planners have gone away.
Planners allow the students to keep organized, not only in school, but in life as well. Keeping them on top of their deadlines is a key piece in keeping them from feeling disillusioned with taking challenging classes. Teaching them to rise to the challenge of education includes teaching them to keep themselves organized and on task.
Less than 80% of high school students across the country graduate from high school.
Less than 30% of those students challenged themselves to take advanced courses in high school. Of those 30%, the majority go on to college or the military. The statistics show that students, irregardless of their income status, are more likely to go on to higher education if they are challenged in high school. Help me help my students face those challenging courses, organized.
