My students need stability balls to replace their classroom chairs. Studies show that when both sides of the brain are simultaneously stimulated students greatly benefit.

From childhood the belief that 'education is the one thing that can't be taken from you' has been instilled in me. People can take your fortune, home, freedom, but they cannot take your education from you. I try to instill this thirst and need for knowledge in my students.
Daily, my goal is to lead my students on a journey that not only challenges them, but also allows for personal and class success.
I want my students to realize that they have worth and intelligence. Living in an urban area, they experience and deal with many social, financial, and academic challenges that many young people do not have to encounter. It is uplifting to see these children deal with these daily challenges and reflect on community/life events in a critical and positive way. Implementing stability balls in our classroom will allow for better student focus on learning and in the end higher success rates on exams, projects, and in class social interactions.
Research has shown that when students sit on stability balls, both sides of their brain are engaged in keeping their bodies centered on the ball. When the brain is stimulated, it's more focused on learning. Not only is the brain better suited to processing new information, students are also better able to concentrate on exams, note-taking, class discussions, and other aspects of classroom learning. This movement increases blood flow to the brain and aides students' natural need to move. My students will be better able to focus due to being able to expend their excess energy that builds up throughout the day. Sitting on a stability ball in the classroom also supports and builds core muscles and promotes a more healthy mindset.
By funding this project for my classroom my students will reap many benefits, most importantly they will be better able to concentrate and perform in class and this in turn will better my students' lives and future.
