Projector Needed for Library Instruction

My Students

My students are eager to learn and currently all huddled around one desktop computer monitor. A projector would allow all students to learn how to use library, research and educational tools. It will also greatly assist all to participate in group-based interactive learning learning opportunities.

Our students are a diverse mix across cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Our school is a first-year charter school which is part of a successful group of charter schools in our local area. The children are excited by the new building but as a publicly funded school, we are challenged with start-up costs. We currently serve elementary and middle school students. The students will be well positioned to take the foundation they build at this school and be placed in the more advanced and AP classes in High School.

My Project

Students will be able to observe teacher-led instruction while seated at tables where they are able to take notes and work on complementary exercises. The projector will be used to: - Teach children how to use online referencing resources; - Show students the impact of different search terms and the quality of results; - Use of referencing databases to find information from encyclopedias and similar resources; - Learn how to use citation resources to reference print and electronic materials; A mix of teacher-directed and student participation instruction will be used so all have a chance to learn from each in the classroom (peer group). These skills are critical as the amount of information available in electronic form continues to grow. Students will learn which are reputable and reliable sources and how to appropriately credit and reference the source of material in their own papers and research projects.

As a teacher very well-versed in the application of educational technology to enhance the learning experience, I know I can teach students how to best use technology as a tool for future learning and productivity.
