Do you remember how exciting it was when your teacher showed you how to solve a problem in a way that was meaningful? Have you experienced the joy of shared reading with quality literature projected on the big screen? My students are drawn to technology as a tool for learning in the classroom.
Students in my classroom come from diverse cultural backgrounds and many students are from families of low economic status.
Our school is an arts-based charter school. Families often drive from far away because they are committed to their child's education. Teachers are committed to the idea that children will gain greater knowledge and growth through teaching in the arts. Students are engaged in hands on learning projects that encourage self reflection and growth. Students in my classroom are encouraged to take risks and feel proud of their achievements. Our classroom community embraces the diversity we represent and support one another in our learning.
My Project
Students benefit greatly from gaining understanding of math concepts at the concrete level. A document camera and projector allows me to project the use of manipulatives so that students can see how we solve problems as opposed to simply solving problems using a pencil and paper at the abstract level. Students are engaged in learning when they can project their own work onto a big screen and demonstrate their thinking. A document camera and projector is also helpful for projecting literature so that we can have a shared reading experience. Students benefit from experiencing literacy as a shared learning experience. The documents camera can also be used to photograph student work so that it can be incorporated into a PowerPoint presentation or shared on the class website.
This project will make a difference in the classroom.
Students are fascinated by modern technology and the use of these materials keeps them engaged in learning. Students need to be familiar and comfortable with the use of technology in order to be successful citizens in the modern age.
