My students need a projector and projector screen.

So much of our work in pre-K is about giving our students access to opportunities and exposure to new experiences. At the end of the year, I want my students to have adequate background knowledge to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.
Our class is made up of 16 three-year-old children from diverse backgrounds in Northeast Washington, DC.
While each student brings a unique perspective to the classroom, there are many commonalities. Our students are energetic, curious, and playful (just the way we like it). They are never afraid to explore or ask questions. Unfortunately, many of our students lack the extracurricular experiences of their more affluent peers at neighboring schools. I am a TNTP alum, dedicated to serving early childhood students in Washington, DC.
In our classroom, we believe in play. Throughout the year, we focus on different make-believe play themes. We transform our classroom into different places, such as restaurants, the grocery store, and the hospital, every five weeks. Students then receive the opportunity to enter these environments and participate in make believe play with their friends. During play, students learn important social, language, and cognitive skills. Building background knowledge is a major component of introducing new themes and is essential to the success of our students' play. Furthermore, a lack of background knowledge can contribute to reading difficulties for students throughout elementary school.
Currently, we have a 15 inch computer monitor to watch videos and view slideshows.
We view paper pictures to build background knowledge. Building background knowledge can be very difficult when students cannot see the accompanying visuals! My students need a projector and projector screen. Having the ability to view slideshows, videos, and pictures on the big screen would help my students better understand experiences from outside school and translate them into their play.
