Ms. Neely from Cleveland OH is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need five laptop computers as a part of their small group rotation activities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The late Steve Jobs was quoted as saying, "What the computer is to me is the most remarkable tool that we have ever come up with. It is the equivalent of a bicycle for our minds." My students need technology readily available to them to prepare them on their journey to being 21st century learners.
I have currently twenty students who enjoy hands on learning and learning things that they can relate to real life experiences as well.
Most of my students come from tough family backgrounds and have limited experiences. The school is located in a tough neighborhood. With these challenges, my students are exited about learning everyday. Out of my twenty students five of my students have different learning disabilities. The intervention specialist and I follow the co-teaching model. If someone was to come into my classroom, no one would be able to tell who my students are that receive intervention unless that person was told. Because I differentiate my instruction, everything works out great. All of my students embrace the different abilities in the classroom.
The teaching style that is used in my classroom is differentiated rotation station groups. This is used for all subjects. I would like to have a technology piece incorporated into the rotations daily. Sometimes the laptops are not available at my school because they are being shared with other teachers throughout the building. During the rotations, on the laptops my students will be working on different software programs to enhance their learning. I also teach inquiry and problem based learning to my students. Have laptops readily available will allow my students to be able to conduct research on topics that are being studied in class. Because my students enjoy working on the computers when given the opportunity, I believe having our own laptops will motivate them to think higher and become independent and responsible learners.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom immensely.
Students will have laptops readily available to them for all subject at any given time. In addition, they will be able to work on software daily that will enhance their learning. Majority of my students to do not have access to computers. Having laptops readily available in the classroom will give those students experience with technology that is needed for them to becomes successful learners o the 21st century.
