Extra! Extra! Read all about it! See what your child does in the classroom! Parents often feel out of the loop of what's going on in their child's classroom. With a weekly newsletter printed in color, they will see what their child does in school!
Welcome to Pre-K!
Come on in! We ask that you be respectful to those around you as well as the materials you play with. Language isn't an issue here, we're confident you'll pick it up quickly. We learn through play and exploration so you're required to bring your curiosity and imagination. Have fun!
Our kids are young, ambitious, and curious, but there's darkness lurking about that's much too serious. Pre-K is a time to explore and play, to imagine and create until the end of the day. But the trouble that's looming seems to be blooming. Academic rigor! Academic rigor! They're telling us to grow up much, much quicker. They want to prepare us to be college ready. We want to go to college, but at a pace that's steady.
Our parents can't help us out of the troubles that's lurking; it's not their fault! They're too busy working! It's up to you to help us keep our childhood we're about to lose, you wonderful people, the people of DonorsChoose!
My Project
I have requested a color printer and toner to print our newsletter to keep the parents informed and inspire our students. It is important to document a project that a child or group of children are working on through color photos, typed children's dialogue, and a written reflection. This documentation is meant to inform others and gain support, feedback, and ideas from others.
In an early childhood setting, this type of communication allows everyone access, including those who may not read yet or may not read English. Photos sequencing a project would allow fellow pre-k students to "read" about the project. This may inspire them to contribute ideas to the child/group, join the project, or begin a project of their own.
Additionally, teachers can reflectively read the photo documentation in order to determine the children's real interests and goals, further support the child in achieving their goals, and to find ways to link the Common Core goals with the child's interest/projects. Parents would also be able to see what the children are learning, how deep their thinking can be, and what their interests are.
In a community that is made up of a very high English language learning population, there is a big communication barrier between parents and teachers.
This color printer will not only document what their child does on a daily basis in color, but it will also keep parents informed about what's going on in the classroom.
Creating visual documentation allows everyone to see the process of a project, allows thinking to be visible, presents problems to be solved, and may even inspire others.
