I teach 8 classes each day. There are two 5th grade, two 6th grade, two 7th grade, and two 8th grade classes each day. Students rotate out of my class every 10 weeks. I need to make the most of the short time I see students each year and I want to make it as exciting and enjoyable as possible.
My school has a mix of different income families.
While we have some higher income families, there are also as many low income students and homeless families. For these students, I try my best to make technology available to everyone. Students often stay after school to explore the Internet and use technology for their classwork. My goal is to make sure that ALL students have access to technology and know that using technology is not just for those that can afford it.
My Project
My students need 6 headsets with microphones. The headsets will allow my students to share what they have learned through podcasting. Students will learn to write, organize, collaborate, and present information using technology. They will work in teams to write out their "show." They will have to work together to develop a plan for their "show" and then write a script and edit the script so it is ready to record. The headsets will be used to create a quality presentation that will be shared over the Internet. Students and the community will have access to their work on my teacher webpage.
This project will create excitement that will keep students motivated.
Students look at computers and technology as a toy or a game. They will learn that they can also be creative using technology and take pride in their creations.
