My students are quite unique as they have had to audition to attend our school of the arts. They are creative and imaginative from all walks of life and economic backgrounds. Using a hands-on approach and "learning by doing," students are taught the arts by both full-time professional teachers certified in their arts disciplines and area and national professionals who teach master classes throughout the academic year. My Students learn to think positively about themselves, their peers, and the material they are learning. ... I try to establish a relationship with each student in the class, and provide opportunities for students to work together in cooperative groups
My Project
Students in middle and high school at our school are rewarded for positive behavior by our teachers and administrators with dragon dollars. When we receive report cards, we earn dragon dollars for honor roll and perfect attendance. Our teachers also give out dragon dollars for completing all assignments in a quarter or for random acts of kindness. Students love receiving dragon dollars and it improves the mental and emotional wellness in our classrooms by providing positive reinforcement for desirable behaviors. For example, teachers always celebrate and praise a student in front of the class when a student receives a dragon dollar. This improves that student's self-esteem, while also promoting a supportive and caring environment where other students celebrate each other's success. This also motivates students to behave well and try their best. The high school juniors and seniors on our PBIS team run a Dragon Dollar Store where students may only use dragon dollars to purchase items at the store.
My project would be used to purchase various school and art supplies that will be rewards for positive behavior as they can be purchased with only dragon dollars.
Some supplies that would be purchased include colored gel pens, mechanical pencils, cute erasers, pencil cases, notebooks, folders, markers, sketch pads, colored pencils, ear buds, lunch boxes, back packs, and paint sets. These school and art supplies will be utilized by students in their academic and art classes on a regular basis. When students are rewarded with picking out fun school supplies, it will make them happier at school which will result in more motivated and engaged learners.
