Portable Technology For Mobile Students With Autism!
My students need two Chromebooks, two covers, and one set of storage shelves for doing research, and developing reading, writing and technology skills.
Chromebooks, covers, and a place to store them will bring the world of research and technology to my students with high functioning autism.
Housed in a public elementary school, these special education students attend a 4th/5th grade Social Communication Classroom.
All of the students have communication needs, and most have high functioning autism. One student is considered Talented and Gifted, some are at grade level, and others struggle academically. These are kind and caring students, with the possibility of making significant contributions to society as they grow and mature.
My Project
The requested Chromebooks, covers and storage will provide students with high functioning autism the opportunity to research, develop reading and writing skills, and increase their understanding of current technology. For students with fine motor skill challenges, a Chromebook in either their mainstream or specialized classroom will provide a socially appropriate way to take notes and write papers, allowing them to fit in with their peers. Chromebooks provide mobility, when a student with sensory needs requires a separate quiet place to work. When they can take their work with them, students miss less academic time.
Chromebooks, covers, and storage provide a portable learning center for mobile students.
Students in Social Communication Classrooms move from small to whole learning groups and join mainstream classrooms. These Chromebooks will provide a portable learning center for students with multiple learning needs. Research and other academic skills will be taught in small, safe settings, accommodating the sensory needs of students with autism.
