Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our fine arts magnet school is located in a vibrant and diverse community. Although we are in a high poverty district, our school has been able to retain our fine arts magnet status. However, it has been a challenge to find the funding for exciting new materials.
One hundred percent of our students are on free and reduced price lunch.
Many of our families are struggling to get by and do not have spare funds to purchase books for home or to provide Internet. However, my students are enthusiastic curious learners.
My students need the Lakeshore Elementary Math Center kit which contains 8 center games teaching key math skills. I want my students to eventually be college ready, so materials like these will help them get closer to that goal.
My Project
These ready-to-use centers have all my students need to build math skills independently. They are designed for up to 4 students at once, and each center has a double-sided instruction chart that gives everyone easy access to the activities with simple instructions that are easy for kids to follow on their own. Each center includes a reproducible write and wipe assessment card and a guide with differentiated instruction strategies. The eight centers include the following very important second grade skills: place value, fractions, geometry, addition/subtraction, money, measurement, time, and data/graphing.
I believe that these math kit centers will not only provide necessary skills practice but also provide my students with chances to learn to work with each other.
This is an equally important skill for my students' future.
