Imagine going somewhere you can't read the language and are expected to perform everyday. You look for signs or pictures to help you because these are universal. Photographs help lower the language barrier.
A majority of my students are learning English in their first year of school.
Like all other students, they come ready to play, learn, and explore.
With the language barrier, a lot of the things done in school are difficult for my students. Having photos to help illustrate steps and communicate ideas makes learning more accessible.
In addition, students can take home photos of memorable moments to share with family members.
My Project
On a daily basis, students are accomplishing small and big feats, anxious to share what they've done. With the Canon photo printer, I'll be able to print out photos of those exciting moments.
In our classroom Word Walls, the photos would help the students associate the words to the pictures. Pictures would capture the highlights of our trips and performances.
Afterwords, students would be able to take these photos home and share them with their families; reliving those happy moments as they tell them about that day.
Photos make everything accessible and allows us to learn despite a language barrier.
With the Canon photo printer and paper, we will be able to solidify word recognition to items on our word walls. The pictures would liven up our classroom charts on routines. Especially since most of us are learning English as a new language. The photos would make academics, routines, and discussions more accessible.
