This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very energetic, and are especially focused in science and technology. Our school is a small school with small, focused classes. Since the school is relatively new, our classroom lacks many of the basic resources needed to teach the sciences.
Our class is made up of students from many different socio-economic backgrounds.
They all have an affinity for science, technology or engineering. Many of my students wish to pursue a career in the sciences or technology.
All of the students in the school take science in my classroom. They are very inquisitive and engaged in the sciences, but often ask why we can't do certain things that other, larger schools can. I would like to give my students a better advantage by providing them with more hands-on materials and lessons.
My Project
The Slotted Mass sets I am requesting will be used mainly in Physics. I teach two physics classes, consisting mostly of juniors and seniors. Physics is very important to our school because of our focus in engineering. Many of my physics students are also involved with our robotics team. Unfortunately, we lack some of the basic materials needed. These materials will be used to conduct experiments in kinetics and kinematics.
This will be a great improvement to our classroom.
We are currently borrowing materials from other schools, but we often have to return them while we still have a need for them. I would like my students to have a set of weights and masses for their own classroom, so we don't have to borrow so much. This way they can spend more time experimenting and I can introduce more activities to aid in learning.
