Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school motto is, learning to lead in order to serve. We accomplish this by tackling new challenges, team building, and through an experience driven learning curriculum. We are currently beginning our first Advanced Placement Art Program.
Above the door in our classroom it states, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams." Like Thoreau, our students are confidently moving towards bigger and brighter things.
Majority of our students are college bound and interested in careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, design, and public service careers. They are curious about their world and are naturally talented when it comes to new technology. My classroom is full of diverse learners that have varying degrees of prior knowledge in the arts; some have only had in early elementary years. Yet, they are hungry and passionate to soak in all the possibilities of the visual arts and design.
My Project
My students need a photo printer, ink, and photo printing paper. We are currently beginning our first Advanced Placement Art Program and Photography study. Students will have the possibility to obtain college credit for work done in high school by submitting a two-dimensional art portfolio to AP. We are very excited about this and had an overwhelming amount of students wanting to participate. We will see students using this printer bundle to print their work, frame, and submit their portfolio. With new technology we no longer have to wait to see our art. We can shoot, digitally manipulate, and print our artworks all in the classroom. Access to this printer will show understanding of how artists work professionally and finalize their work into a gallery worthy piece. We will also curate a show for end of year for parents, community, and family.
This will help bring our classroom into the technology age and give students hands-on experience in bringing their ideas to reality.
Our goal is to help promote all of our art students to be college ready. Access to a printer and the ability to present their art work professionally is an important part of being an artist. At our school we empower students to believe we are all artist we just have to find our art medium; be it sculpture, photography, or drawing.
