My Students

At the beginning of the school year I purchased 1000 pencils and pens. I am close to running out. But that doesn't mean the learning is over.

I work with a delightful group of 120 eighth graders who are lovely students but a bit disorganized.

We have tried many ways to keep our pencils, but somehow they develop legs of their own and walk away. We are a creative bunch of Wisconsin residents who are excited to learn, but have financial restrictions. Many students do not have the resources to purchase their own materials. With over 40% poverty, I need to provide the basics.

My Project

I do not believe in the concept of "I can't learn, because..." If it means my students will learn because they have the materials they need, I will do everything in my power to make it happen. I am asking for pens and pencils to provide for my students. I am excited to have kids who get so involved in their learning that they forget the basics. They will often be completely into the lab, that the class comes to an end, and they are not ready to leave. In the quick return of materials, pencils often are not returned.

Students have told me when I ask for them to return my materials, they say: "What will I do next hour?" Please help my students not just in my class, but all day long.
