Mr. Husch from Saint Louis MO is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an iPad for our PE program and for our basketball team.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our PE classes are very large, and with limited space they can be hectic. We would like to show more complete and compelling demonstrations using the iPad so they can fully understand what they are supposed to be doing. This will also help them when they take notes for health components of PE.
Our students love to be active, but it is difficult with the large number in the gym.
We do have high achieving students in the building, but they do suffer from an almost complete lack of technology in their classes. The students love everything about technology, and this would be an easy way to help grab their attention. The building does have a wide range in ages going from 6th grade to 12th grade. We hope to get as much out of this iPad as we can and also use it with the Basketball programs and allow them to use the iPads to watch film before practices in the gym, something that none of our Varsity sports have ever done in the past.
The iPad will pair with the projector that you all so generously helped fund earlier in the year for us to show demonstrations to the students as well as quick notes for their health components. We will also use the iPad to help track the students fitness levels by entering pedometer steps at the end of a lesson and putting it up for them to all see with their secret class nickname. This will let them easily see how they compare with activity levels to their classmates and be a fun little competition for them. We plan on also filming the students as they play the games and putting class "Top 10s" up on the projector at the end of the week for them. We will also be having the athletes on the basketball teams using the iPad to watch film and review opponent stats to get ready for their games. This is something common place for most programs, but it has never been done at our school. For a new program this will be a huge help.
This will improve the gym by making instructions more varied than just a teacher demonstration, allowing students to track their activity levels, and let ALL of the kids get something they succeeded at get shared with the class in the form of a "Top 10".
For the basketball team it will be a huge help with both self scouting and opponent scouting. It will allow the athletes to see what they are doing right and wrong on the court and how to correct it, hopefully improving their confidence.
