Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the confidence you gained when you tried something for the first time and experienced success? Many of my students are learning that they can actually draw realistically for the first time and gaining a sense of pride in their work. Help them continue art projects.
To say that the students at my school are diverse, would be an understatement.
My school is a Title 1 school in a metropolitan area with thirty-seven different nationalities represented. My school is unique because this diversity is viewed as a strength, and the students really embrace it. They are not divided because of this, but rather are interested to learn more about a global philosophy. The students at my school are excited to attend, and most of them really want to get an education to make a better life for themselves. The student population is 85% free or reduced price lunch, and it is refreshing to see such an attitude of aspiration among them. I love teaching at my school because all their cultures come through creatively in the art room. It is interesting to see each student's personal connection with their heritage and their life in the United States. They all have such a unique voice, and I feel lucky to teach them how to share it with the world.
My Project
Paper towels may not seem like they would enhance student learning that much, but they are key to continue instruction in both painting and pottery. Getting paper towels donated will allow for us to use the instructional budget and fundraising money to grow the department. We would eventually like to include a wider scope of specialized courses and grow the Advanced Placement studio art program. If we are able to get basic supplies such as these donated, then we use school money to bring students on college visit field trips to various Art Colleges in the area and give them opportunities they would otherwise not have.
This project is extremely important for the visual art department to thrive. We use hands-on studio instruction without the use of basic supplies like the paper towels I have requested. If we do not get these supplies, students will not have the opportunity to explore new mediums. I would like my students to be able to learn through hands on experiences in the studio
This project will allow my students to continue day to day creation in the art studios at our school.
With these supplies no longer being provided by the school, we must come up with them on our own. Your help will allow the art program to continue thriving.
