Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students see waste every day. They understand that the future depends on what is happening today. They also realize that they cannot change this on their own, it must be a collective effort. They want to make collective effort to recycle paper, plastics, and aluminum at school.
The majority our students come from low income homes.
In fact, over 80& of our student body is eligible for free or reduced lunch.
They understand what waste is and are discouraged by the amount of waste that occurs within the school setting. They have asked why we do not have a recycling program in place and what it would take to get one started.
The students want to make a lasting impact on our school, our community, on our world.
My Project
Without the materials to start this program, the program may never get off and running. The students have learned that these blue bins make an impact in every room that they are set in. Students in these classrooms see that they are making an Impact to reduce, not only their carbon imprint, but the imprint of the campus.
Right now, there aren't enough funds to get the program up and running. Yet, the program will fund itself, once it is up and running. The students feel like they are in a no win situation. They need your help to turn this around and to begin reducing the waste produced by this one campus.
Recycling needs to become second nature.
These students want to make that happen in our school. Recycling bins are needed to begin reducing the amount of paper, plastics, and aluminum, that make it to the landfill from our campus.
Our students are trying to teach the campus to think about our environment. Please help them get their message across.
