My students need coffee cart supplies such as a Coffee Brewer, five aprons, a mobile cart, and cartons of sugar and creamer packets and coffee and tea K-Cup packs, to teach them the skills needed to have their own independent jobs after they graduate from high school!

Help us to start our Own Coffee Cart Business right out of our classroom! We need to build our social communication skills, money skills, and independent skills!
Hi Everyone!
I am a Special Education teacher within a high school in a high poverty community. I am the teacher of 10 wonderful students with severe disabilities. I teach in a self-contained Autism classroom where we work hard every day to build many skills. My students range from freshmen to seniors in high school.
To better prepare them for their futures' after high school, I want to give them activities that will teach them all of the essential skills needed to be independent. My students struggle with social communication, and are building their skills in math, language, reading, as well as many other functional tasks within the classroom. In order to give them real-life learning experiences that they will be able to relate to once they step out of the high school doors, I am hoping to bring a Coffee Cart business to our classroom. Starting a business with them will help them to gain so many essential skills that they will value and use once their are independent!
My Project
My students need coffee cart supplies such as a Coffee Brewer, five aprons, a mobile cart, and cartons of sugar and creamer packets and coffee and tea K-Cup packs, to teach them the skills needed to have their own independent jobs after they graduate from high school! Our high school has work programs for students with disabilities, where they can venture off school grounds to work in the community and to build their independent skills. Yet, my students have not had the opportunity to do this. As a teacher who wants to give my students lessons that they will value as well as skills that they will be able to use once they leave high school, is my number one GOAL!
With this coffee cart business, Our class, will start from the grounds up!
Starting with voting on a name of the business, learning about supplies, organizing materials, socializing with customers, understanding hygiene, learning about uniforms, following rules, kitchen skills, and money handling, we will be learning employable skills. These are just a few of the goals we can reach with this project!
Our intention is to take this coffee cart, throughout the school during the morning hours and selling coffee and tea to faculty members. We will be able to understand the aspects of holding a real job by having this coffee cart!
As a Special Education teacher, and a niece to my severely disabled aunt who passed away last year, I value and encourage real-life learning to students with disabilities.
Giving them the confidence to be independent and to be able to have a job within the community is what I strive for as their teacher. With this project, my students will be able to gain so many skills and values that one would use when they leave high school. Please help us to experience what a job in the community feels like!
