Welcome to my Kindergarten Class! Students in my classroom are using technology to go beyond playing games. They are solving higher level thinking problems and creating amazing projects using digital tools.
This particular group of students is incredibly motivated to learn!
They also show a level of respect for the tools we use in our classroom beyond many of the classes I have encountered in the past. I teach at a low income school, so many of my students come to school with a heavy load to bear. I have several students this year that have already lived through traumas that no child or adult should have to overcome. I have students who come to school hungry because their parents can't afford to provide them with food at home. Yet, even with all that is going on in their home life, they are still excited to be at school and learning every day!
My Project
Technology tools should always be used to enhance learning. There is an assumption out there that technology is used by teachers to keep kids busy. This is not the case in my classroom. The Osmo is going to enhance student learning in a way that I cannot not do on my own. "The Osmo has a natural ability to foster creative, social, and emotional learning – and how much their students love it (www.playosmo.com)." Students will use the Osmo to learn the basics such as solving challenging math problems, spelling words and learning about numbers. The Osmo, however, doesn't stop there. Student also learn about persevering, problem solving, and creating.
Imagine this... kids are smiling, laughing, and happily engaged in new learning.
This is what is happening in my class every day, but I always want things to be better! The Osmo is going to help me achieve this goal. Kids love to learn using the Osmo. Plus there are many great resources other teachers have already provided that will allow me to improve my teaching. This isn't just your average everyday gizmo. It is something that will significant increase student learning!
