"When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece." - John Ruskin; English critic, essayist and reformer. Because of their passion and perseverance, our students have been chosen to perform at our state's Music Educator's conference; however, we need some help to make their dream a reality!
Our school is a seventh and eighth grade middle school of approximately seven hundred students.
These eighth grade students have elected to participate in chorus for their entire eighth grade year, and all but two devoted their entire seventh grade year as well! The students come from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic levels. Despite this, they share a passion for music and come together as one to create beautiful musical experiences. Last year, these students worked tirelessly to achieve one common goal: to perform at our state's Music Educator's Convention. Because of their hard work and discipline, they were in fact one of only two choirs in the state selected to perform, and each of these students deserves to participate! However, finding the money to make this a possibility is easier for some than others.
My Project
The students will be taking a two day trip to perform for our state's Music Educator's Convention this fall. For many of these students, this will be a once in a lifetime experience. Because they understand what an honor it is to be chosen to perform at such a prestigious event, the students have already begun to work toward creating the best musical product possible by working together and supporting each others' musical efforts in the classroom. We are specifically in need of funds to help off-set transportation costs for this event. Though we normally ride on an activity bus, basically a white school bus, for trips and performances because it is less expensive, it is taxing on the body, and in turn the voice, to ride in such a vehicle for long distances. Therefore, our students not only deserve to take a charter bus to this event, but it is physically necessary so that they will be able to perform at the highest possible level.
As earlier stated, the opportunity to sing at our state Music Educator's Convention will be once in a lifetime for many of these students.
Many of them have never been to such a formal event, and this is a real chance for them to see what it's like to be part of something bigger than they imagined. They have come together as one to make their dream a reality, and because of it have stepped to a new level of musicianship and have new reason to be at school every day.
