Technology, technology, technology! Teachers and students are exposed daily. With money restraints and changes in operating systems, obstacles occur. With this grant, I could learn more about Windows 8. Oh please, let me be the student through this awesome opportunity! I'd definitely love the chance!
The town where I teach is a close knit community and we have great students, teachers and parents!
Our Pre K-5th grade school is one of two feeder schools in the area. Our school has approximately 535 students. I teach twenty-four Kindergarten students. With the new Common Core implemented, our teachers and students are all trying our best to move forward and do what is best for our children. We are fortunate to have hard working students who enjoy learning. As a school, we don't have many Windows 8 computers. Like others at my school, I personally want to strive to learn more about this new Windows 8 system. I would love to have one to use with my eager students later on down the line. I know to accomplish this though, I need to back step a bit and be the student once again. I am more than willing to do what it takes. There is no doubt, that having a new Windows 8 laptop would eventually benefit me as a teacher and, of course, my students later on too!
My Project
Basically my school doesn't have many Windows 8 computers, so I met with our tech leader to see if I gained one if she could help me. At that time, she and I set up a plan of action for my own professional development path. This would include meeting 1 to 1 or with a group to help me learn more about the Windows 8 system. The plan for my educational journey would mean meeting for 3 meetings to help me understand Windows 8 and how to implement it later on. In addition to that, my mentor gathered professional development articles and tutorials to aid my journey with effective academic uses of a Windows 8. Windows 8 is a different format, so I know I have a lot to learn. Through the use of the requested laptop, I will be guided on my learning path. Our plan includes working for two goals. Goal 1 includes Windows 8 hands-on lessons for me to learn more while the next goal lies with me guiding students later on. Before I get to goal 2, though, I have to become a student and learn about Windows 8.
Technology is a MUST in the classrooms today.
The sad truth though, often lies money restraints and ever changing operating systems. The ongoing cycle of learning is critical for successful educators today. I am more than willing to learn about Windows 8 with the guidance of my school's technology leader. I know as a student, I can move forward to eventually help my Kindergarten students. But first, I will become the one who needs to learn. Oh please, let me be the student again with this grant!
