As a music teacher, I believe Bono's words, "Music can change the world because it can change people." With new tools in the world, I'd love to combine iPads, apps & a keyboard for new & different types of music lessons. But first, I need to become a student which will offer changes in my classroom.
As a music teacher and band leader, I work with all students at my school weekly.
I am fortunate to work at a dedicated and committed elementary feeder school with 535 students from Pre K through 5th grade. Our Pre K-5th grade school is one of the elementary schools in our area. We have 535 students. I currently work with the Pre K through 3rd grade students with music weekly. I also teach tonet lessons to our fourth graders and in 5th grade, I teach elementary band. I've researched some apps and spoken with technology leaders about an iPad in my music room. Obviously, we live in a society that embraces new technologies daily. I know combining technology resources would be productive. My plan would be for me as the teacher to embrace the use of an ipad with students To do that, I will have be to like my young musicians at school and be a student again.
My Project
In sitting with our school technology leader, we've decided my Professional Development lesson plan will include meeting privately or in small groups for three sessions to learn more about iPads in my classroom. Obviously, step one will require me reversing roles to become a student again. In addition to that, our school tech leader gathered professional development articles and tutorials for teachers at our school to understand the academic uses of iPads. A reading list has been set up to broaden my knowledge as educator. She recommended that I read the links to broaden my knowledge as an educator. Through the use of the requested iPad and keyboard case, my tech leader will guide me with my personal path. My personalized lesson plan lies with striving for two important goals: Part 1 of my journey lies with learning the physical aspects of the iPad which includes settings, iTunes and apps to link music lessons. Part 2 will lie with implementing music lessons using an iPad and apps.
With the face of a new music journey in terms of iPads and apps, you can help me not only as an educator, but as a student.
As Bono stated, "Music can change the world because it can change people." This teacher wants to change her students by offering more. Technology has led us on different paths with iPads and apps for the classroom. My goal as an educator, now lies reversing roles and becoming a student again. With an iPad and keyboard, it would help me bring changes. Will you help me?
