When I was in school, I would choose biographies and books about animals. I loved learning new information about topics.
My students need to read a variety of books about different topics of their interests. Nonfiction books will help students learn about topics and reinforce their reading skills.
In my class, there are five and six years old.
They are curious and interested in learning. Reading a variety of books will help students become more independent in their learning. Students learn to read and are so excited about what they are learning. This will lead to more confident readers. Students learn to read and share this love of learning with their families. Our school is a Title One school with over 50 % English as a second language learners.
My Project
Students need a variety of books to read. Early readers learn to read and use reading strategies to help them read. The nonfiction books give the students a chance to read informational text on their level. I will send nonfiction books home for them to read. I will use the books in class as a literacy center. Students will learn about topics of their interests and share new information with other students. Students will work with a partner to locate text features in a book. Students compare and contrast nonfiction and fiction books about topics. I will use the containers to put the leveled books in my class, so students can pick the book of their choice.
Reading is so important for our students.
Students need to be provided with all kinds of leveled books. The nonfiction books will help my students be successful with reading independently on grade level or above. Reading will increase how they will succeed in school and life. When they are successful in reading, their self-esteem and confidence grow. Students can achieve anything in school and life.
