Look in the back of our classroom and you will see bookshelves and kids searching for books to read. While we have many fiction books, our nonfiction selection is very thin. Many of my students love nonfiction books and need nonfiction books available in our classroom for them to read.
"Mrs. Dahl, why does..." "Mrs. Dahl, how does..." My students are very inquisitive, and enjoy finding out the answers to questions.
I have 26 fourth grade students in our suburban school. We have kids reading at levels from L to W. They are active readers and enjoy picking out their own materials to read.
My Project
With the addition of nonfiction books to our classroom library, boys and girls will be able to expand their reading skills. Nonfiction reading is known to create more complex thinking skills in its readers. As soon as these books are on our shelves, they will be picked over and added to the students' book bins. This will give them the opportunity to have a choice not only in fiction reading, but nonfiction. Having choice in reading is known to raise motivation and motivation raises the number of books read.
This project will better all of my children's reading lives.
I strive to help the students not only know how to read, how to comprehend, but also how to love books. These books will help to create lifelong readers.
Thanks for considering this project!!
