My students need No Fear Shakespeare novels and personal folders to help them grasp the content of the classics. They will be ecstatic to receive these materials!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am Ms. C, and I teach in the department for juvenile justice. My students are a handful. They are handfuls of joy, struggles, emotions, ideas, smiles, good days, and not so good days. I love them dearly, and I only want for them to excel in their academic and personal lives
My students are in a maximum security facility due to some decisions they have made prior to coming to me.
They are not "bad" kids; they are, however, in need of guidance. My students are bright and, at times, hilarious. They take life for what it is, and they never shy away from telling you how they feel. Their ideas and thoughts have altered my perception of them. In my eyes, they are not criminals. These children have the capacity to achieve greatness. I want them to become functioning members of this society, and I need some help in doing this. They want a chance to climb out of the holes they have dug for themselves; my job is to be the one reaching into their pit and pulling them toward the world they have yet to see.
My Project
My students will use the No Fear Shakespeare novels to assist them in their comprehension, discussion, and application of Shakespearean works. These materials do not only make it easier for my students to understand the content, but the books also allow me to speak to my students in "real talk" as they would call it. They will read and respond to the text on a newer and more interactive level, rather than reject the material due to its unfamiliar dialect.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by making the Shakespearean text more approachable.
I want these kids to really enjoy what they are reading, as opposed to dreading the idea of the infamous Shakespeare. They will see a side of Literature that they have never been exposed to before.
