My classroom library has many different types of text, but one area where we need supplemental materials is within the informational text genre. Children love reading about current events and I want to make them accessible to all students at all levels.
My students love all subjects and are active learners.
I teach at a school where materials are sent in by some families, but not by all. We are a diverse classroom with many needs. We are a high poverty school that has students from all economic levels.
I want all of my students to be active and engaged in our learning. I use many diverse materials to keep kids engaged. They love to read and enjoy learning new ideas.
My Project
I would like to have these subscriptions to Scholastic News, so my students will have daily access to informational text on different levels.
By having a copy for each child, students will be able to think and interact with these texts to help them comprehend better. My children will be able to work with these texts in the classroom, at home and online.
Students can read for enjoyment, but also to show their understanding of these texts. Students will be more engaged with the variety of informational texts they will be exposed to.
Reading informational text is key to being able to live in a 21st Century world.
Students need to be exposed to a variety of text and have access to these at school, at home and digitally. My students will have the ability to read current events that they might otherwise miss due to curricular restraints and material availability. I am excited to see students use and discuss their understandings and opinions about what they read in a collaborative setting.
