My students need the basic supplies, such as paper, pencils, a class set of both composition books and journals, and name tags, to begin a productive school year.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There is always anticipation and excitement on the first day of the new school year. Everything is new and exciting for the students.
I teach in a low income school in an urban area where 99% of the students are on free or reduced lunch.
Students come to school eager and excited to learn reading, writing, math and how to get along with others.
It is easy to remember that wonderful feeling of starting school with new supplies. It shows "I'm ready." My students come on that first day with a little less excitement.
My Project
Every child will have supplies on the first day of school to begin practicing and learning basic skills that are needed throughout their school years.
One important skill is learning to write first and last name. The jumbo pencils, line paper and name tags give the students a sense of security with this concept.
My students need supplies to start the year prepared to be successful in all subject areas.
No child will be left behind because he or she did not have materials/supplies to complete an assignment.
