Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The future depends on what we do in the present," Mahatma Gandhi said. I believe this is true, if we teach little ones now about other cultures they can learn to be accepting of others.

I teach twenty-nine enthusiastic and energetic students with different abilities.

They are five and six-year-old bilingual and monolingual students. They all receive free lunch and attend a school that is located in a high poverty and gang infested neighborhood. Many do not have access to a computer at home. Despite these adverse circumstances, they come to school with big smiles on their little faces.

My Project

I have requested an iPad and protective case, global community book set, plays about famous Americans, and a famous people flip chart to conduct research about other cultures. My students will use the iPad to do research on different countries. They will create a poster of the country and include the language, customs, foods, clothing, etc. The global community book set will help them understand the different ways people play music, how homes are different in each climate, games that are familiar to every culture and much more. The supplemental materials will allow students to read examples about famous Americans in the United States.

With your support, my students will learn that no matter where you live, all communities share common features and rituals to daily life.

But most importantly, increased awareness of different groups of people can help eliminate ethnic stereotypes and lead to greater acceptance.
