Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our basic supplies were lost during Hurricane Sandy including notebooks, binders and index cards.
Our Middle School is a diverse high-need school comprised of over 1,000 students in grades 6 to 8.
Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. All of the students have been adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy.
My Project
Hurricane Sandy and the storm surge crippled our small waterfront community. Many are going onto our second week with no heat or power, all have had no school and some no longer have homes to return to. The school supplies I have selected are staples in any school but would now be a burden to go out and get for families dealing with water damage, home-loss and rebuilding. Having basic supplies like binders, index cards and notebooks make it easier for the children to complete their work.
Please help my students with basic school supplies for those displaced by the hurricane.
They need to be ready to learn and study. Having a stockpile of these resources in the library to hand out to the children in need would be a great way to help them out.
