My World from the View of a Camera

My students need a Nikon DSLR camera and three Sony cameras for the new photography mini majors being offered to 4th and 5th graders. My students will be able to see the world from a new view.

My Students

A typical day for the 4th and 5th graders involves intense study along with opportunities to move, sing and be creative. Our students learn better when given creative ways of learning that don't feel like "school".

My students are 4th and 5th graders.

They are curious and enjoy hands-on adventures. They work well together and are great at encouraging each other. Our school has around 250 4th and 5th graders that will participate in this program. =Our school is very supportive of the arts and believes students learn better with a wide range of opportunities.

My Project

Students will be involved in a photography mini major. Ever student will take this 7 week course. They will be learning the rule of thirds, filling the frame, limb crop, negative space, leading lines, computer edit, photo story, scavenger hunt and a photo contest. We are now working with only 3 cameras making it very hard for classes of 25 to get hands-on time. Four new cameras would enhance student learning and creativity.

Students are having to make decisions about their future at a younger age.

Exposing them to as many opportunities as possible will help them to find their interests. Photography will help them see the world from a new view. Introducing new computer skills as well as photo story writing. Students will be working on cooperative skills, writing, reading, researching, and problem solving without even knowing they are doing it. Having the proper equipment will have a large impact on this mini major
