Without a doubt, more powerful technology resources are on the horizon annually. I would love to learn about Windows 8 with this professional development grant. A laptop would offer hands-on experience with this operating system. My plan involves me becoming a student for with technology sessions.
I am currently a 3rd grade team teacher at a Pre K- fifth grade school.
Our school has more than 500 students. We have a close knit community and the parental support here is truly admirable. Each year, our school offers technology campaigns to help our school gain technology resources. I believe technology integration is an asset to the curriculum. We, as a school, are fortunate that our students have truly embraced technology resources and love working with all of our resources. Our school is one in the district who strives for technology resources in our classroom. However, we don't have any Windows 8 computers. I have a personal goal to learn more about Windows 8 though the use of this laptop. I would love to have one to use with my eager students eventually, too. I know to do this, I need to back step a bit and be the student once again. I am more than willing to do that because, in the long run, I know that not only I will benefit from this, but my students will too.
My Project
Suffice it to say, our school doesn't have many Windows 8 computers. When I saw this grant, I met with our tech specialist to see if I gained one if she could help me. She encouraged me to try! A plan of action was set up for Professional Development for Windows 8. The lesson plan for my personalized journey would mean meeting three times to help me understand Windows 8 better. She would then show me how to implement lessons too. We also spoke about my reading professional development articles to guide me with my journey. She explained that Windows 8 is a different style computer, so I know I have to be prepared to learn. Through the use of the requested laptop and mouse, I will be guided on my learning path. Our plan includes striving for 2 goals. Goal 1 includes Windows 8 hands-on lessons for me to learn more while the next goal lies with me guiding students later on. I know however, that prior to goal 2, I have to plan and become the student in these sessions.

For teachers to stay abreast of new technologies at hand, we have move forward and continue learning. I am more than willing to do that with a Windows 8 laptop. In learning more about the format of this new computer, I can eventually bring my students up to date too. I have my plan of action in place and a teacher to guide me.
