My students need to see! It's crucial we replace our projector with an interactive flat screen TV. This TV would redefine our learning and enhance student collaboration.
Collaboration. Creativity. Technology. Individuality. If my classroom were a composition, these would be the instruments. I would like to say, "sky's the limit", however, our lack of technology is holding us back. We have 1:1 devices, but limited resources to connect devices and share student work.
Many of our students are living near the poverty line, and a lot of parents have never been to college.
Our school mission is "to teach the curriculum to all students in a way that promotes self-esteem, mutual respect, cooperation, and the desire to continue learning throughout life." Creating lifelong learners is my biggest goal.
My students are excited about the opportunities that technology has to offer. These 3rd graders are becoming young professionals with "everything Google!" My kids love having pen pals through a shared Google Doc. This has allowed them to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and learning with students that are 300 miles away.
These young learners of mine also love using Google Slides, YouTube and Google Forms. With much excitement, we have successfully launched 27 students created Google Sites! The children LOVE publishing finished work onto their website, and connecting their learning to a larger audience than just myself.
My Project
The opportunity to have a flat screen TV would redefine my classroom. Right now, the only way I can display digital work: documents, videos, Google Slides (PowerPoints), and student work, is through our clunky portable projector. The sharpness is fuzzy, the bulb is loud and the brightness is greatly affected by sunlight and lights. My children are having trouble seeing what I project, and our class projects a lot of things. My kids love sharing their work; moreover, many students cannot see it.
In attempt to fix this problem, I moved my projector and screen to be located near our classroom meeting area (a corner of the room where students sit on the rug). This would allow kids to be closer to the large projections. I tried this, but had to retreat when the sunlight hit the screen-it greatly dimmed the image and made it hard to see.
Having a flat screen TV would allow for all students in my classroom to gather at our meeting area, and access a plethora of digital documents.
The gracious donations made to this project will increase collaboration, improve visual accessibility, strengthen engagement and enhance our classroom community.
The students will be thrilled to use online resources, share their thinking, solve problems and display their work on this television.
This TV will be located in our classroom meeting area-allowing us to gather as a team of learners, participate in collaborative discussion, and pursue lifelong learning together!
