Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a brand new elementary school located in Camden. Our mission is to "Work Hard, Go To College, Change the World!" We are a turn-around school working hard to close the achievement gap in Camden.
My students are from Camden and have started out their education in failing schools.
Our job at my school is to turn that around into something positive. The entire school is working together to give the scholars the best education that is within their right as human beings.
My Project
Since we are a new elementary school, we are starting from scratch. We need basic materials to start making music in our classroom! We will be learning rhythms and note reading through the musical instruments that we will receive. My students need 30 bodhran drums, 2 boomwhackers tuned percussion tubes, 6 xylophones,48 rhythm sticks, bean bags and scarves for their general music classroom. We will also be playing songs on our boom whackers and putting on performances in school and throughout our community. Our scarves and beanbags will give us a chance to do different movement activities. Our drums, and xylophones will help us learn how to play percussion instruments.
Having these materials for our music classroom will help us explore in music and to show my scholars that music something they can have in their lives for a lifetime!
