Mrs. Ellington from Chicago IL is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a classroom rug to organize our space and transform our classroom into a warm, welcoming learning environment.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
We are reigniting a music program and our school mission is to educate the whole child through math, science, literacy, and the arts. As a music program in its revival, we need materials to support learning for all students. We are a growing program with needs for essential resources.
Students at our school are eager to begin making music.
The music program is process-focused to encourage every child to discover the skills and knowledge needed to develop independent musicianship. We are building our performing arts programming by adding music to the existing drama and visual art programs (a music teacher's dream!) Our music programming will add to the school's existing rigorous curriculum and encourage every child to use divergent, creative thinking. We are a public school that serves a diverse population; students come from many parts of our city and range in cultural and social-economic backgrounds. Music classes are a place where all ideas and creativity are shared and encouraged!
In order to better serve our students, I am humbly requesting a class rug that will serve as the central focus of our classroom where music-making will begin. This resource will greatly impact our students' development in music as it will be the classroom hub for collaboration, improvisation, and activities like folk dance, singing, and composition. With a classroom rug students will have a space to make music while enhancing the warm, welcoming feel of the classroom. A classroom rug will also maximize the space in our classroom because it allows students to organize during activities; with 25-30 students in the room, we need all the space we can get! A classroom carpet will also allow increase comfort for students as it will mean they are able to sit on a soft space rather than the hard tile floor! With a classroom rug, students gain organization, safety, and the classroom environment becomes comfortable and welcoming. This is an essential resource for quality music-making!
Fulfillment of this project will positively affect the music education of every child in our school.
A classroom rug will give our students the opportunity to move with increased organization and comfort throughout the classroom. Also, the rug will assist in seating arrangements thus meaning more time for learning and music-making! Overall, fulfillment of this project contributes to our school goal to prepare students for college and beyond as they learn in a warm, rigorous space
