We encourage each other to experiment and stretch ourselves musically. We master the basics and then enjoy learning new styles of music as well as writing our own. My students enjoy bringing new music into the classroom and sharing with each other.
I have 75 students in Jazz Band, keyboard, guitar, choir, and solo literature.
We start with basic music theories, then we learn to read music, then learn to play music, and even learn to write our own music. My students work with students in our school's dance and theater departments as well as students in science. In fact, my school supports and encourages cross disciplinary partnerships of all kinds. We all understand that learning to think creatively to solve problems and deepen our critical inquiry is imperative to our students' success.
My Project
My students enjoy giving their time to our community through performances at senior centers and at community events. Performing gives us all a goal to strive for and a reason to perfect our music. In addition, our school gives students several opportunities to perform at school concerts throughout the year. Not only would new guitars allow my students to hear how musical notes should sound in order to obtain mastery of the instrument, but they would also allow the public to enjoy our public performances even more.
As a public school, we learn to make due in many areas.
I would love to introduce quality new instruments into my classes and allow students to hear just how good they sound and how far they've come in their musical studies. I know that new instruments will energize my students to work even harder and encourage them to continue their music studies into college and beyond.
